Wind, solar, storage make up 80% of new US power capacity (Chart)
Renewables and batteries dominate new plant commissioning
The bulk of new power capacity in the US is coming from wind, solar, and batteries. For the third year running, renewables and energy storage have accounted for more than three quarters of newly commissioned megawatts. Combined- and simple-cycle gas account for the balance of new utility-scale power capacity.
Interesting to see batteries listed., which are more of a time shifter than a real source of new power. So some power gets to be counted twice, once when produced by whatever means, then "consumed" by the batteries, then put back onto the grid when needed (and pricing is higher).
I wonder whether we’ll see more green on this graph in the coming years as SMRs seem to be gaining some traction (albeit early stage)
